my thoughts

I just loved everything about this sweet classic romance. It had all the classics with a lovely original twist of American history and I am pretty sure that everyone that reads this book will want to go to Mammoth cave in Kentucky after reading this book.
Rebekah is such a lovable heroin, and I loved how to story did not focus only one the lovers but also her family and sisters. It was refreshing to have a book where there are 3 or 4 story lines going one at once and you cant wait to finish each one.
If you love your good dose of Historical romance I highly recommend this little gem of a book.

Without Warning (Review)

Author: Lynette Eason
Genre: Action, Suspense
My Rating: 9/10
Revell Reads

Katie Singleton, a partner with the Elite Guardians Protection Agency, stumbles upon her next assignment quite by accident. Spotting blue lights at a familiar restaurant, she stops to investigate, only to discover that owner Daniel Matthews has become the target of someone who will go to any lengths to put him out of business.

Daniel might be concerned, but he's not convinced that a bodyguard--and a female one at that--is necessary. A new attack and his niece's urgings are enough to make him reconsider. He and Katie must figure out who's behind the intimidation and threats--before a would-be killer strikes again

My thoughts:
This is book number 2 in the Elite Guardian series, and having read the first one and enjoying it so much I was soooo excited to jump into this one. I immediately felt the pull of the story and the action and the suspense was perfect, and so real. In one of the action scenes it felt so real I felt like I was a spectator at the actual event. Lynette Eason really did do a AMAZING job in this book and I thought it was even better than the first, I am very very much looking forward to number 3 in this series.

The characters were wonderful. I loved how all of them really just worked in harmony together and I loved how the romance between the 2 main characters didn't steal the show, but instead just added another layer of depth to it. The only think that I felt a little lacking was character description, I may have missed it but I still have no idea what Daniel looks like but that was easy to look over because it was just packed with other amazing story lines that came together in an amazing way.

I definitely recommend this book to all of the suspense and action book lovers, and I am so glad to add this to my collection of books.

Traces of Guilt (Review)

Author: Dee Henderson
Genre: Mystery, Suspense
My Rating: 9 out of ten
Bethany House Publishers

Evie Blackwell loves her life as an Illinois State Police detective . . . mostly. She's very skilled at investigations and has steadily moved up through the ranks. She would like to find Mr. Right, but she has a hard time imagining how marriage could work, considering the demands of her job.

Gabriel Thane is a lifetime resident of Carin County and now its sheriff, a job he loves. Gabe is committed to upholding the law and cares deeply for the residents he's sworn to protect. He too would like to find a lifetime companion, a marriage like his parents have.

When Evie arrives in Carin, Illinois, it's to help launch a new task force dedicated to reexamining unsolved crimes across the state. Spearheading this trial run, Evie will work with the sheriff's department on a couple of its most troubling missing-persons cases. As she reexamines old evidence to pull out a few tenuous new leads, she unearths a surprising connection . . . possibly to a third cold case. Evie's determined to solve the cases before she leaves Carin County, and Sheriff Thane, along with his family, will be key to the answers she seeks.

My thoughts.

This book was amazing. It captures my attention from the very beginning and did not let up speed till the last sentences. I loved how many different storylines were happening throughout the book and how they all seemed to connect in one way or another.

The characters were strong, well developed, layered, and really wonderfully paired together.
Evie has such a drive and passion for her job, that it just added a whole other layer to her character.
I really enjoyed reading about her and discovering her life and journey throughout the whole book.
I loved absolutely love, how Dee Henderson make the mystery so complex and intriguing that it requires creativity and thought to try and figure out the mystery yourself before the book tells you.

Over all I really enjoyed this book and recommend it highly to all suspense novel readers, and if you are not a suspense novel reader, try this one out!! You won't regret it.

Silence in the Dark (Review)

Author: Patricia Bradley
Genre: Suspense
My Rating: 8 out of 10
Revell

When Bailey Adams left Logan Point two year ago for Mexico, she thought she was getting away from her problems. Running into her ex-fiancé Danny Maxwell was not part of the plan- neither was being chased thought the city by the local drug cartel, the Calatrava. Now despite her best efforts, Danny is her only chance at escaping the people chasing her and getting back to Logan Point safely. Can Bailey find the strength to face whats coming? And in the midst of all the chaos, can she keep her self from falling in love with her rescuer all over agin?

My thoughts:
I cracked the covers of this book with no preconceived ideas whatsoever, as I had never read one of Patricia Bradley's books before. The beginning of this book was crazy and it just jumped right into the action and introduction of all the characters. But I felt that as the story progressed it lacked a little bit of the nail-bitting action, and it just did not grip me that way that other suspense book have made me feel. I did like the characters and the fact that there were 2 love stories running on the thread of the plot. But the romance between Danny and Bailey was not the most gripping romance and I felt like it was just a side dish to the action and mystery of the plot. But other than that I did over all enjoy it and the cover is very cool :)

Simply Calligraphy (review)

Blogging for books
My rating 8 out of 10

Simply Calligraphy is a simple little guide to a beginner who is thinking about getting into calligraphy and is very detailed in its description to each stoke of a letter that you want to create. It is broken up into easy and efficient sections that make the use of this book very easy and simple.
I liked this book because of its approach to calligraphy and it started at the VERY beginning. But I did feel like the first half o the boo was more 'cursive' than the elegant writing we think of when we think of 'calligraphy'. But maybe that was just because of the books being targeted solely to beginners.
If you are a beginner and you want to start learning  calligraphy I definitely recommend this book.

The Magnolia Duchess (Review)

Author: Beth White
Genre: Historical Romance
My Rating: 5 out of 10
Revell

Fiona Lanier is the only woman in the tiny Gulf Coast settlement of Navy Cove. While her shipbuilding family races to fill the demand for American ships brought by the War of 1812, Fiona tries to rescue her brother who was forced into service by the British Navy.

Lieutenant Charlie Kincaid has been undercover for six months, obtaining information vital to the planned British invasion of New Orleans.

When a summer storm south of Mobile Bay wrecks his ship and scatters the crew, Charlie suffers a head injury, ultimately collapsing in the arms of a beautiful mermaid who seems eerily familiar. As Charlie's memory returns in agonising jags and crashes, he and Fiona discover that falling in love may be as inevitable as the tide. But when political loyalties begin to collide, they'll each have to decide where their true heart lies.

My thoughts:
Not the most gripping historical romance that I have read. It lacked alot of personality and character I felt and I simply could not connect with the characters.
Also felt like the romance went far to fast, I like it when the love interests have stories and puzzles but this book just didnt give me all that.
But I do Very much like all of the History. It was amazing how much research I am sure the author put in, it was amazing and informative to read about the war of 1812.

The Reluctant Duchess (Review)

Author: Roseanna M. White
Genre: Historical Romance
My Rating: 9 out of 10
Bethany House Publishers

Lady Rowena Kinnaird may be the heiress to a Highland earldom, but she has never felt good enough—not for her father, not for the man she thought she’d marry, not for God. But after a shocking attack, she’s willing to be forever an outcast if it means escaping Loch Morar and the men who have jeopardized her life.

Brice Myerston, the Duke of Nottingham, has suddenly found himself in possession of a rare treasure his enemies are prepared to kill for. While Brice has never been one to shy away from manor-born ladies, the last thing he needs is the distraction of his neighbor, Lady Rowena, who finds herself in a desperate situation. But when the moody Earl of Lochabar tries to trap Brice into marrying Rowena, Brice finds he’s not as opposed to the idea as he expected to be.

Rowena wanted to escape the Highlands, but she’s reluctant to resort to marrying a notorious flirt just to gain his English home. And when she learns that Brice is mixed up in some kind of questionable business with a stolen treasure, she fears she’s about to end up directly in the path of everything she was trying to avoid.

I loved this book so much. It was not your usual romance as in the romance comes first and then everything else. It was very different and I throughly enjoyed it and could not put it down.
Rowena was such an interesting character and I LOVED the way the author captured her Scottish backroad, heritage, and lingo.
Brice was the biggest sweetheart ever and I thought that they were the perfect match. His faith and dependance on God was unbelievable and inspiring. The story had so many story plots threading and interweaving all over the place that it was such a fast paced, fresh book to read.

This is a beautiful story of pain, sorrow, hardship, and then help, mercy, forgiveness, and love. I loved watching Rowena morph into the woman that was always somewhere hidden inside of her just hidden beneath layers of pain and sadness, but watching it all peel away was amazing and made the characters seem all the more alive to me.

I would recommend this book to all christian romance lovers and am proud to have it on my shelf.

Eating in the Middle (Review)

Eating in the Middle
Author: Andie Mitchell
Genre: Cooking
My Rating: 10 out of 10

Eating in the Middle by Andie Mitchell is the most amazing cookbook that I own to date. I thought that the cover could have portrayed more of the food aspect and I wasn't that keen on the cover but the moment you crack it.....its like a world of beautiful photograohy and mouthwatering food. The photography in this book is out of this world. It is so inviting and I just want to cook every thing I see RIGHT NOW!!

The cookbook is broken up into Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner sections, and of course Dessert, with snippets of Andie Mitchell's story of how she got on this journey. It was inspiring to read her story and then go on to read all about her favorite recipes.
I DEFINITELY recommend this recipe. Its not EXTREME healthy but its not junk food. Its comfortable home cooked meals. Its eating in the middle.

Playing the Part (Review)

Author: Jen Turano
Genre: Historical Romance
My Rating: 8 out of 10
Bethany House Publishers

Lucetta Plum is an actress on the rise in New York City, but is forced to abandon her starring role when a fan's interest turns threatening. Lucinda's widowed friend, Abigail Hart, is delighted at the opportunity to meddle in Lucetta's life and promptly whisks her away to her grandson's estate to hide out.

Bram Haverstein may appear to simply be a somewhat eccentric gentleman of means, but a mysterious career and a secret fascination with a certain actress mean there's much more to him than society knows.

Lucetta, who has no interest in Abigail's matchmaking machinations, has the best intentions of remaining cordial but coolly distant to Bram. But when she can't ignore the strange and mysterious things going on in his house, it'll take more than good intentions to keep her from trying to discover who Bram is behind the part he plays.

My Thoughts

All books that I have read by the pen of Jen Turano have been wonderfully entertaining, and have an amazing sense of comedy that she has mastered more and more in each and every book that she has written. This is no exception. At times I laughed right out loud and it was such a lighthearted book that I could not help but love it and read it with a smile. I have not read many books with actresses in it so this was defiantly a new experience and I really enjoyed it.

I did very much like Lucetta. She had a great character and was not who or what all thought she was, and the fact that she was an actress made her character all the more colorfull and full of layers.  She was strong, no-nonsense and very sensible yet very funny and I appreciated that immensely.

Bram was a very entertaining. His ideas and his goals in life were laughable and I did think that he was perfect for Lucetta.

I thought that at times it moved a little slowly and required a bit of urging to pick it back up, but other than that it was excellent.

If you like historical romances and also comedy this (and really any of Jen Turano's books) is for you.

A Sweet Misfortune (Review)

Author: Maggie Brendan
Genre: Historical Romance
My Rating: 7/10
Revell

Rachel Matthews isn't one to rely on others to take care of her. Destitute and alone, she still wants to make her own way and her own money--even if she's forced into the life of a dance hall girl. Horrified by her circumstances, Rachel's brother sends a friend--the widely admired cattle baron John McIntyre--to rescue her, then sets off to earn enough money to buy back the family ranch. But when months pass without her brother's return, Rachel isn't sure she can take one more day in John McIntyre's home--especially once she discovers that he's the one who holds the deed to her family's ranch.

Sparks fly between this spunky, independent heroine and the ruggedly handsome hero as they navigate the snarled terrain of pride, greed, faith, and love in Maggie Brendan's delightful series set in the Old West.

My thought:
I have cracked the cover of another historical romance. Historical romances are all over the place so for me to come across one that I really enjoy is rare.
This book was good but not stunning and not one that will be remembered forever in my book.
I thought that Rachel was not very unique and was a little bland to read about. Although I thought that John was a pretty good character.
I was a bit confused at first because the story seemed to progress SSOOOO quickly and I that made me feel like the story could have been over halfway trough the book. And I felt like it was just your average historical romance that was not very captivating and lacking in adventure.

But overall the writing style was great and this will not stop me from reading another of her books

Cravings (Review)

Author: Chrissy Teigen
Genre: Cookbook
My Rating: 8/10

Cravings by Chrissy Teigen is a cookbook that includes all recipes that you want to eat RIGHT now!!
The pictures of the food are beautiful and there is one for just about every single recipe. I have like 20 recipes already marked down as ones that I want to try.
The only reason that I don't give it a perfect marking, is the pictures of author and her husband that were dispersed throughout were (in my mind) unnecessary and for some may be offensive. I was originally going to go out and get this cookbook for one of my young friends (quite young preteen) who is just starting out cooking but when I saw the pictures I knew that her parents would not really appreciate it. I just thought that it was extremely unnecessary in a COOKBOOK!!
Overall if you are looking for a cookbook that has all the general things that you want to eat with a good variety of culture in it, this is the book for you.

As Hyam sets out on another journey, he is keenly aware that he must rely on all his abilities-- and his forbidden past--to succeed. His quest could bring deliverance...or devastation.

My thoughts:

I really enjoyed this book. It has an amazing compelling cover that is so eye catching, and in it an amazing fantasy world is created , that is easy to follow and shouts magic loud and clear.

It took me a little but to really get into the story but after that initial slowness, it was page turn after page turn.
Hyam is a strong and tough individual who is called to fight countless beasts of magic and I found him to be over all just a really interesting and maybe sometimes mysterious character that was really fun to read.

The fantasy element and the magic was soooo cool and was woven into the story in such a way that it seemed to happen without you knowing it.  It is the timeless story of good versus evil yet written with a twist.

I highly recommend this book to all of those fantasy lovers out there, you cant go wrong with picking this one up.

Always Watching (Review)

Author: Lynette Eason
Genre: Suspense, Romance, Action
My Rating: 9.5/10
Revell

When it becomes clear that popular psychiatrist and radio personality Wade Savage has a stalker, his father secretly hires Elite Guardians to protect his son. But when Wade's bodyguard is attacked and nearly killed, agency owner Olivia Edwards must step in and fill the gap.

Olivia's skills are about to be tested to the limit as Wade's stalker moves from leaving innocent gifts at his door to threatening those closest to him---including Olivia. But in her mind, even more dangerous than the threat to her life is the hold her handsome client has on her heart.

My thoughts:

I can honestly say that Always Watching the best suspense book I have read in a very long time. It is such a different suspense as it does not have the FBI instead Lynette Eason has established a new team called the Elite Guardians. And I am most defiantly excited to be reading more in this series. It is fast paced and kept me turning page like crazy.

Olivia Edwards is a a great character and she has her world of pain of secrets that Lynette Eason weaves into the story. I did like the fact that she was the on saving people instead of the one being saved.

Wade Savage was great. He was not the usual good-looking/tall/muscled FBI agent that falls in love with someone who need saving. Instead he was just a character was living a pretty normal life and that made it seem more relatable and eye catching.

The only section in the book that did not grip me was the ending, in reality no suspense book I have ever read has a good enough ending because we have been building up to it for hundreds of pages and we form unrealistic exception to what it should be. I thought the end in this book seemed a tiny but rushed, but that was all that I could pick out as something that I did not like.

Overall this is an amazing book,  I loved it and I highly highly recommend it to al of you who love romantic suspense.

Genre: Cooking
My Rating: 10/10
Blogging for Books

The Indian Family Kitchen Cookbook is my favorite cookbook up to date, I went over it and then went back and marked over 20 recipes that ! want to make RIGHT NOW. It is a beautiful thick hardback recipes book that is full of ridiculously amazing looking recipes and the personality that Anjali Pathak put into it is simply heart warming.
It has sections between some recipes that tell her must have species, her favorite kitchen utensils, fridge favorites, and more, that just make you feel like she truly does want to share her cooking secrets with you. On nearly every recipe she has a "My Secret" note that shares these awesome tips that she has learned over the years and as if that is not enough she has a couple pages of personal pictures and family history that just seals it all off as a truly personal recipe book that is sooooo wonderful to read through.
The pictures are stunning and there is a picture for nearly every recipe.

Im summary this cookbook is a must have for all of you who love cooking with bold flavors and integrating cultures into your meals.

Thin Ice (Review)

Author: Irene Hannon
Genre: Suspense, Romance
My Rating: 8 out of 10
Revell

After losing her parents and her sister, Christy Reed has been mired in grief. Now, life is finally starting to feel normal again - until an envelope addressed in her sisters handwriting arrives in the mail. And the note inside claims that she is still alive.

FBI Special Agent Lance McGregor, a former Delta Force operator, is assigned to reopen the case..but he's coming up with more questions than answers. Is Christy a pawn in a twisted cat-and-mouse game, or the target of a sinister plot? As Lance digs deeper, one thing becomes clear: Some one in the shadows has a deadly agenda

My thoughts

I am a HUGE geek, when it comes to suspense novels and I read each and every one that I can get my hands on. Irene Hannon is brilliant in writing suspense, I have read several of her books already and I have loved all of them. She masterfully incorporates all the components in a plot in to one huge thrilling spiral of suspense that makes her novels a heart-beating package of words.
This book was another wonderful read in the genre of suspense and I defiantly recommend it.

Christy Reed is a character that has gone trough some seriously hard stuff and it is a little hard to read her POV because it feels so tense, which is exactly what I liked about it. She is a great protagonist who is grieving and doesn't see very far beyond her grief, I feel. Irene incorporated a great story line about her iceskating career,  that I found interesting because I have never read about the life of an ice skater before.

Agent Lance is a very likable guy who has had his share of trauma and the romance between him and Christy is so cute and well woven into the story. He is the typical awesome agent that comes to the rescues falling in love along the way. I got a good smile at the bantering between him and his brother, very enjoyable and comfortable character.

As far as the negative go.........

The criminal in the story (and the crime line in general) creeped me out to no end, It was a bit nasty and the way that the criminal treated his grandmother DROVE ME NUTS. It was more the disturbed-in-the-head kind of criminal than the revenge criminal and those are always a bit less enjoyable to me. All that could have been passed by, but I also felt like he didn't have a very good reason for committing this crime and threatening Christy. I was expecting a big story line as to why he hated Christy, maybe a money issue or a competitive issue in the rink...but no.....it was this really lame reason which made the crime feel really stupid.  But other that that I really did enjoy this book and do recommend it for all you suspense fans out there.

Undaunted Hope (Review)

Author: Jody Hedlund
Genre: Historical Fiction, Romance
My Rating: 6.5 out of 10
Bethany House Publishers

Running from the mistakes of her past, Tessa Taylor heads to the uppermost reaches of Michigan, planning to serve as the new teacher to the children of the miners. She quickly learns the town had requested a male teacher, but Percival Updegraff, superintendent and chief mine clerk, says she can stay thought the winter since its to late to replace her. Tessa cant help but thank him and say she in his debt.

Determined to make herself irreplaceable once spring thaw arrives, Tessa throws herself  into her work and soon two students have decided Miss Taylor is the right match for their grieving father. At the same time, charming assistant light-housekeeper Alex Bjorkland makes his interest known, surprising Tessa, who has never had men fight for her hand before, But  not all is well as she feels someone is tracking her every move. and she may not be able to escape the trap that has been laid for her.

My thoughts:

As this is the first book by Jody Hedlund that I have read I had very high expectations as to what her writing would be, as I have heard many good things from her. So with a the bar set rather ridiculously high I opened up the pages and prepared to jump on to the Jody Heldund train.

Sadly I must say that the train passed by and I will not be jumping on it at this time. I tried to enjoy the book as I went along and see where the author was going but I was rather disappointed. The plot would have been good but I feel like it was just occasionally peeking out behind the romance. And trust me there was a lot of romance. Tessa's love interest ,Alex, seemed to be shirtless half of the book and there was constant reference to his looks. It is okay to mention it in the first chapter to establish the chapter of Alex and what Tessa thinks of him, but after awhile it got really repetitive and annoying. Tessa was a interesting character but nothing I haven't seen before. I also felt like the book was far to long, and could have been shortened a hundred pages.

On the bright side this book was easy to read and I found myself at the end before I knew it. And while I didn't quit enjoy it as much as I would have liked, I will be reading another of Jody Hedlunds Books soon.

Overall this was just not the outstanding unique book I was hoping for and I felt like I was reading a book that any other author could have written. But to those who are wising for a quick romance this is the book for you.

The Heathy Mind Cookbook (Review)

Author: Rebecca Katz with Mat Edelson
Genre: Cookbook
My Rating: 9.8 out of 10
Blogging for Books

So here I am, living my good old life, chillin-out reading a book, when my brother slams the front door while yelling "YOU GOT A BOOK".  So yes my life went from great to EXCELLENT!!!
This cook book is seriously beautiful, it has a beautiful cover, lovely hardback and I just had to dive right in. Now lest you think that this is just your regular cookbook let me inform you that is is NOT!!
The first page you open up to is a beautiful picture of a salad that makes you feel like cooking right away, and then the next 40 pages are filled top to bottom with information about eating healthy, and get this, it lists all of the ingredients that you will run into in the recipes following, telling you all the benefits that they have.
example. Shrimp. Cognitive functioning. Focus. Learning. Memory. Neuronal health
and then it will follow with a short paragraph.
I was enamored by this section on the cookbook and I hadn't even read any of the recipes!!!!
And don't even get me started on the recipes, they are so straight forward and divided into sections such as soups, salads. etc. They are unique and most of these recipes I have never heard of.  The Organic/Healthy aspect of this is crazy excellent and accurate.

As far as negative go the ONLY thing that I could pick out was the fact that only about every third recipe had a picture to go with it, and as I am a very visual learner that tended to bother me as I thought "How do I know what I am cooking is supposed to look like" but the pictures that there were were ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!!!!

Over all I felt like these authors did an excellent job and every time I turned the page I could feel the fact that they worked hard and really care about what went into it.
I recommend this book to anyone and everyone, but especially to those who want to start eating healthy this new year.
