The Magnolia Duchess (Review)

Author: Beth White
Genre: Historical Romance
My Rating: 5 out of 10
Revell

Fiona Lanier is the only woman in the tiny Gulf Coast settlement of Navy Cove. While her shipbuilding family races to fill the demand for American ships brought by the War of 1812, Fiona tries to rescue her brother who was forced into service by the British Navy.

Lieutenant Charlie Kincaid has been undercover for six months, obtaining information vital to the planned British invasion of New Orleans.

When a summer storm south of Mobile Bay wrecks his ship and scatters the crew, Charlie suffers a head injury, ultimately collapsing in the arms of a beautiful mermaid who seems eerily familiar. As Charlie's memory returns in agonising jags and crashes, he and Fiona discover that falling in love may be as inevitable as the tide. But when political loyalties begin to collide, they'll each have to decide where their true heart lies.

My thoughts:
Not the most gripping historical romance that I have read. It lacked alot of personality and character I felt and I simply could not connect with the characters.
Also felt like the romance went far to fast, I like it when the love interests have stories and puzzles but this book just didnt give me all that.
But I do Very much like all of the History. It was amazing how much research I am sure the author put in, it was amazing and informative to read about the war of 1812.

The Reluctant Duchess (Review)

Author: Roseanna M. White
Genre: Historical Romance
My Rating: 9 out of 10
Bethany House Publishers

Lady Rowena Kinnaird may be the heiress to a Highland earldom, but she has never felt good enough—not for her father, not for the man she thought she’d marry, not for God. But after a shocking attack, she’s willing to be forever an outcast if it means escaping Loch Morar and the men who have jeopardized her life.

Brice Myerston, the Duke of Nottingham, has suddenly found himself in possession of a rare treasure his enemies are prepared to kill for. While Brice has never been one to shy away from manor-born ladies, the last thing he needs is the distraction of his neighbor, Lady Rowena, who finds herself in a desperate situation. But when the moody Earl of Lochabar tries to trap Brice into marrying Rowena, Brice finds he’s not as opposed to the idea as he expected to be.

Rowena wanted to escape the Highlands, but she’s reluctant to resort to marrying a notorious flirt just to gain his English home. And when she learns that Brice is mixed up in some kind of questionable business with a stolen treasure, she fears she’s about to end up directly in the path of everything she was trying to avoid.

I loved this book so much. It was not your usual romance as in the romance comes first and then everything else. It was very different and I throughly enjoyed it and could not put it down.
Rowena was such an interesting character and I LOVED the way the author captured her Scottish backroad, heritage, and lingo.
Brice was the biggest sweetheart ever and I thought that they were the perfect match. His faith and dependance on God was unbelievable and inspiring. The story had so many story plots threading and interweaving all over the place that it was such a fast paced, fresh book to read.

This is a beautiful story of pain, sorrow, hardship, and then help, mercy, forgiveness, and love. I loved watching Rowena morph into the woman that was always somewhere hidden inside of her just hidden beneath layers of pain and sadness, but watching it all peel away was amazing and made the characters seem all the more alive to me.

I would recommend this book to all christian romance lovers and am proud to have it on my shelf.

Eating in the Middle

Blogging for Books

Eating in the Middle by Andie Mitchell is the most amazing cookbook that I own to date. I thought that the cover could have portrayed more of the food aspect and I wasn't that keen on the cover but the moment you crack it.....its like a world of beautiful photograohy and mouthwatering food. The photography in this book is out of this world. It is so inviting and I just want to cook every thing I see RIGHT NOW!!

The cookbook is broken up into Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner sections, and of course Dessert, with snippets of Andie Mitchell's story of how she got on this journey. It was inspiring to read her story and then go on to read all about her favorite recipes.
I DEFINITELY recommend this recipe. Its not EXTREME healthy but its not junk food. Its comfortable home cooked meals. Its eating in the middle.
